Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
